Luigi, you and I survived what I hope is our last trip on an airplane until you at least 5 months old and I attempt to bring you to visit your Uncle W, Aunt R and cousins in England. It's wishful thinking that we will make it over there before my maternity leave ends. But that's my goal! In any case, you and I headed off to Chicago last Sunday night for two jam packed days of walking around an enormous merchandise mart checking out all the new contract furniture offerings. I have always wanted to attend this trade show, and I know in the next few years, I won't want to leave you to do it. So, I was glad to have the chance to get there once before you arrive. Your mommy held up pretty well with all the walking, not to mention all the up and down I had to do sitting in all the new chairs and lounge furniture! There is a lot to test out. To reward myself, I stayed home on Wednesday with my feet up in the recliner for most of the day while I caught up on one of my guilty pleasures, a little soap opera called General Hospital. I promise not to make you watch it with me too often!
Daddy and I have been thinking a lot about your name. We have three that we like, and we've been testing each one for a week or so. One of the names (which I will admit is my least favorite) happens to be after your great-grandfather. I think because I have a name that is so common for women my age, it feels weird for me to give you the same name that someone else in our family already has. Not to mention that is has a nickname that I don't love. I would prefer to give you a name with the same first letter, and perhaps the same middle name, as a way to honor him instead, and allow you to be your own unique person without any pressure. But, I am taking to heart a conversation I had while in Chicago, with a man who named his son Sevario after his grandfather. He told me that his son was honored and felt special to he named after a family member. And so, I haven't ruled that name out just yet.
This week you are the size of a papaya or a mango. To be honest, I don't really eat a lot of either of those, so I don't have a very good picture in my head. But that's ok. The best part is that you keep getting bigger and I get to feel you moving around more and more often. Not too much else happened this week little one. I saw my doctor and she told me it's time to start looking for a pediatrician for you. I spent a lot of time trying to empty the closet in your room to prepare for painting, and worked on invitations for the shower Granny is throwing us in July. It was also Father's Day this weekend, and we gave Daddy a little vacuum pump so he can continue to drink wine without me and not feel like he needs to drink the whole bottle. Because trust me, Luigi, no one needs to drink a whole bottle of wine all by themselves!

I can't wait to find out the name! Our daughter is actually being named after my paternal nana. It is her nickname, I liked the name not for those reasons but makes the name more special because of those reasons.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Chon, I'm hoping to do the same thing by making a name more special because of a familial tie. I made a huge list of names and am now asking family members for the family trees from each side, finding one of my fave girl names in the family tree sealed the deal for me and I LOVE IT all the more now. Boy names I'm still undecided but hoping to do the same thing!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of somehow paying homage to family through a name...it's just this particular name in general that Hubby really wants to use, I just don't like all that much. So, I'm trying to adopt the Jewish method of using the same first initial. But you've given me an idea...I think the name I like, with the first initial reference might actually be similar to my great-grand mother's name....hmmmm.
DeleteWait? No photo?
ReplyDeleteOh, there's always a photo waiting on the camera. I just can't seem to process any less than three at a time these days!
DeleteGirl, you are a much nicer person than I am! I forbade my husband to drink wine in front of me because I love it so much. Beer, liquor or anything else is fine, but watching him drink wine is pure torture!
