Comments

Hi All, just a quick question for you about comments. I have always been terrible at responding to comments. Probably because so much of my online life happens via iPhone and not laptop, and it's just so convoluted. But I would like, if I can find the time, to try to converse more with my bloggy friends. What do you all find is the best way? I know some of you are emailable, and I can just reply when then comment is emailed to my inbox. But if I reply on my blog, do people actually come back and look for a response? I rarely do this myself. Or do people tend to subscribe to the comments so they are kept up to date? This often overwhelms me when I do it with other blogs. Just trying to figure out how to turn this blog world into a more conversational experience rather than just post and comment and leave it at that.

  1. I have any comments on my blog emailed to me, and then usually if the commenter allows it (somewhere in their settings maybe?), I can email them back/see their email. I don't usually go back and check the blog to see if the author comments back, but let me know if you figure something out that works!

  2. I rarely commented on my comments when I was on blogger. Partially because I didn't think the author of the comment was notified of my reply. Now, on my wordpress site I do reply some, but I still struggle to reply. Sometimes I just like to read the thoughts of others and leave them be...

Reply or no, I just like leaving my thoughts for you to read...hope you get as much enjoyment out of reading the comments as I do reading your posts.

  3. I don't usually come back to see responses. Email response is probably best!

  4. I don't usually come back to see if there is a reply, unless it is something I'm very interested in.

On blogger, I have had comments emailed to me. I personally like to email people if I reply to them (along with commenting on my blog too), but not everyone has their email published somewhere on their blog, so it isn't always easy to reply.

I've JUST switched to WordPress, so I hope now I'll be able to email people when they comment. :)

  5. Hmmm...it definitely frustrates me that not everyone is emailable when they comment. I do try sometimes, because that it the easiest way from the phone. And then sure enough, it's a blogger no reply email address. It does seem that so many people are switching to WordPress. I wasn't sure I wanted to learn a new format, but I'm starting to get a bit tempted, I have to admit. It definitely seems more conversational, but harder to control the look perhaps, unless you know more?

    1. WP Is awesome for comments it tells you when someone has commented and shows up in a handy comments section and you can comment directly from the reader. So much easier.

  6. I love being able to reply to comments on my blog through email..it is so much easier.

I rarely go back to a blog that I've commented on to see if there was a reply. Mostly because I forget. Occasionally I can have follow up comments sent to my email but I only do that if it is something I was really interested in.
