Fat and Old

I had two strikes against me going into this pregnancy. I'm borderline obese according to my BMI and I'm 37 years old. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised that I do in fact have gestational diabetes.

I'm waiting now to hear from the GD clinic to get an appointment to meet with the dietician and endocrinologist to learn how to eat (which quite honestly, just give me an easy diet to follow, but please don't make me cook too much. I'm so in uninventive about eating and not much of a cook) and to check my sugar. Looks like that will be four times a day. More needle pricks. Oh joy.

I'm just so sad about this. But it was probably inevitable. I would have needed to live life quite differently for the last several years if I was going to do anything to avoid this.

Now I'm just worried that Luigi will come early. Of course, I'm so excited to meet him, but I have so much to do. And I really want some time off work before he gets here. I don't want any surprises. Wasn't getting pregnant enough of a roller coaster? Can't things just be simple now.

Yup. Just feeling fat and old.

  1. I'm borderline morbidly obese and also 37....GD sucks as a diagnosis, but it's really easy to control. Your little boy might actually come out on time and on the small side. You can't be old because I think I'm actually older than you by a couple of days and if you're fat, then I'm a fatty fat.

As far as cooking, I think you'll be in the clear. A friend of mine was really well controlled with just diet and she's not a cook in the least.

Good luck....you've done superbly so far...thinking of you and sending good thoughts!

  3. I definitely don't think you are fat nor old. Sorry about the GD but just remember that it is manageable throughout your pregnancy. Everything is going to be okay and you are going to have a healthy beautiful Luigi when this is all over with!

  4. My super slim incredibly healthy sister in law had really bad GD and Chippies besties wife also slim had it as well. It doesn't matter what size you are (and FYI you do not look obese in your photos). As to old, well I hear you there. My four year old nephew looked at my wedding photos and said to me "Aunty chon was that when you were really young......" out of the mouth of babes hey. IF scores again. I can't change your age but it is only a number xxxxxx

  9. It's always extra crappy when you have to deal with a new issue after going through IF, isn't it? I hope you can get some good advice and tips from these ladies and your lifestyle won't have to change too much!

  10. Oh man - sorry to hear this, but I have to say, you are NOT fat and old! You are a glowing expectant mother with an unfortunate complication that I am confident you will tackle like a champ. Hang in there!

  12. Hang in there mamma! I was overweight and pregnant, had pregnancy hypertension for my first one. It is hard, but at least you are being monitored.

  13. Good luck hon! I know how much this would suck and I pray I don't have to deal with it. You only have to do this for a little while. It will be so worth it in the end. I'm already having to change my diet due to the acid reflux stuff and it's annoying.
