E2 now 202 (updated) (again)

That's up, damn it! Wrong way little ovaries. Can you please start cooperating with me? I really can't take it anymore. Do you realize that in 8.5 months of 2011 we have only had two legitimate tries for egg to meet sperm? It's fucking ridiculous. We've either been supressing, cancelled or dealing with sexual side effects for every cycle but one ivf and one iui this year, and I'm getting really fucking impatient. Again, still waiting for instructions from the nurse, but I am not optimistic. Not one little bit!

Update: Heard from the nurse. My cycle is officially being "restarted." I am to call with my next bleed and start bcps for another two weeks. I'll have a baseline u/s - but no b/w - 4 days after that, and we'll get started. Why no blood then, when they've just tested my E2 three out of the last 4 days. How do they know it will be ok to start after another 2 weeks on bcps? And the other thing that's freaking me out...I stated spotting yesterday. It better not be too late to start the next two weeks of bcps. I'l going to loose it if I have to wait another whole cycle. Of course, I always end up playing phone tag with the nurse. Since I have zero privacy at my desk, I have her call my cell. But, I get no cell reception at my desk because I sit inside a zinc clad building, next to a steel stair. So, I have to go outside every few hours to check my messages to see if she has called back. I think I will go do that now. Then, maybe I will be able to stop hyperventilating.

Updated again: Nurse says the spotting doesn't count. I have to wait for a whole nother bleed. The good news is that we don't have to cancel our labor day weekend plans, and I won't be on any swimming restrictions. Maybe Violetta just really wants to be born in June like most of the rest of her family.

Somebody Rained on my Beach Day

Literally and figuratively.

I've had "beach day" on the calendar for this weekend for over a month. I wanted to make sure I got one more day in (we've only been once) this summer before I was too deep into stims to feel comfortable, or banned from swimming after retrieval. Swimming being submerged is the most important part of the beach for me.

For many reasons, which I will explain in a bit, we had to choose Sunday as the day. The forecast for Saturday looked beautiful, but Sunday was always kind of iffy. Finally, on Friday, Sunday looked like it would work. All the rain pushed to Monday, and it was going to be a high hear 80. Our day was on!

Until this morning, when I woke up and heard the tell tale sound of car tires on wet pavement.

Not only that, but I finally heard from the nurse late yesterday. An E2 of 132 is still far too high to start stims. I have to go back on Monday for more blood. There are still no signs of spotting, or anything. At least my E2 is on the way down. Maybe two days will be enough. But right now, I feel like somebody rained on my IVF cycle too. We have a few fun plans scheduled for the tww, and it's looking more and more like those will have to be pushed aside in favor of bed rest if this continues to drag on.

So, why was it that we couldn't go to the beach on the day was absolutely perfect for it?

If I hadn't needed to whine about the rain this morning, this story would have been it's own post titled...Little Roy's Big Adventure.

I've mentioned that one of our furbabies, Roy, has been peeing spraying messing up my house sick with a bladder stone. We had been debating the need for surgery, and decided that a follow up xray to see if the prescription diet he's on has made any difference. The easiest time in our busy work lives to schedule a vet appointment is on Saturday mornings. And we learned the hard way, that we can't get to the beach at noon, we have to leave early, earlier than we would be back from the vet. So, no beach.

Which ended up working out, because I got a flat tire last weekend. And when we brought the car in on Wednesday to get two new tires, we were told we should come back on Saturday when it was tax free weekend and they were running a special, buy 3 get one free. OK, fine, we decided to replace all 4 tires, since some of them were looking, well, a little bit tired. And it was only a matter of time. Roy's appointment was for 9:00 am, so we scheduled an 8:30 drop off, thinking we'd take the two cars with Roy, drop off the cruiser, and head to the vet.

Until I got my call from the nurse on Friday afternoon telling me for the first time that my E2 was too high, and that I needed to come back Saturday morning for more blood between 8:00 and 9:30 am.

Yes, more poor kitty got a little taste of the life of an infertile. The morning looked like this:

7:40 am - Jen leaves the house in the truck to drive from Waltham to Newton to be the first person waiting for bloodwork.

7:57 am - Jen signs in at the clinic with one person on the waiting list in front of her.

8:10 am - Hubby scoops up Roy into the cat carrier, and takes the cruiser to Watertown to drop it of for the tires.

8:18 am - the person in front of Jen in the waiting room is finally called back,

8:20 am - Jen texts Hubby to say she has still not been taking, and to tell Roy she's SO sorry.

8:22 am - Jen finally gets some blood drawn.

8:27 am - Jen heads back to the car, calls Hubby to tell him she is on the way.

8:30 am - Hubby leaves Roy in the car at the tire place, goes inside to drop off the key, the guy comes out with him to check out the car, and is startled to find a cat in the back seat. Hubby texts Jen to see if he needs to start walking because he hasn't listened to her message yet.

8:34 am - Jen pulls up in front of the tire place after a record trip from Newton to Watertown because it's ridiculously early on a Saturday and she can actually jump on the pike for one exit and get somewhere quickly. She finds Hubby standing on the sidewalk with the cat carrier.

8:50 am - Jen, Hubby and Roy arrive at the vet only to find out they are running about 15 minutes late due to a language barrier with a French client.

9:20 am - the vet reveals the results of Roy's xray...the bladder stone is gone! No surgery required! (and it's been a week since we've seen any accidents or spray, so we're very hopeful!)

9:40 am - Back at home to drop off Roy.

and because I was so impressed with everything we accomplished yesterday before noon, I'll share the rest of our morning, even though by this point, Roy's adventure came to an end.

10:00 am - get a call that the car was ready. Make plans to visit friends for dinner to meet their new daughter

10:30 am - head out in the truck, stop to buy a baby gift, then off to pick up the cruiser

11:00 am - pick up the cruiser, head back toward home in two cars.

11:20 am - meet at the grocery store to buy appetizers for dinner, and lunch for our beach day (grrr!)

Noon - home with both cars, and groceries in time for lunch! It was quite a morning

As a comparison, on a usual weekend day (like today) I get out of bed around 8:30 or so, after lying there ready blogs for a bout a half hour, come downstairs, and have some decaf coffee while I blog. Hubby stays in bed until about 10 (it's 9:55 right now and he's still there!) Before we know it, it's time for lunch, and we feel like the day is gone. Anyway, It was a good reminder of how much we can accomplish when we need too, and good practice for what it will be like to shuttle our kids around to different places on busy Saturdays in the future.

All right, I guess I should go now, and figure out something else to do with my rainy non-beach day Sunday.

Any suggestions on how to make estrogen crash in 24 hours??

E2 too high!

I have a much more entertaining post about the morning we had coming later. In the meantime, my baseline u/s yesterday was fine (I assume that means no cysts), but e2 was too high so I had to go back today. Still waiting for instructions but I was able to check my results online and saw that it only dropped to 132 from 136. I think it needs to be at least under 50 if not lower. I'm on the antagonist protocol, so no lupron, just bcps for 21 days, the last of which was Tuesday. I should supposedly be spotting by now, but I'm not. Probably related to the e2. Anyway, does anyone have experience with this issue? Please share how it played out for you.
I can't stand that the start of this cycle keeps slipping!!!!

Just a quick note

To say...wow, I really missed acupuncture. I started up again in anticipation of starting stims tomorrow! Baseline in the morning. Hope we get the go ahead to get this party started!

And by the way, and I the only person in the world who wanted anyone other than Melanie to win SYTYCD?

OK, off to bed for me. I have to get up extra early tomorrow for that appointment. Let the good times begin!

Miscellaneous Monday

I've seen some others here and there posting some of the random photos they find on their phone. I thought it would be fun to do this on occasion. So, without further ado, I bring to you... Miscellaneous Monday!

A bathroom at a local IVF clinic where I go for acupuncture. I am constantly trying to come up with creative ways to use 2x2 tiles in public bathrooms.

a tiara Angie pulled out of his desk drawer when I said I needed a tiara to be the Revit (architecture software) queen

alliums blooming outside a church in Back Bay. I so need to plant some of these in my yard...so whimsical and fun.

I had to document the fact that there were 8 in each package. When did they start matching?

Steps on the deck at work...inspiration for our deck design at home.

Hubby using  a vice clamp to hold fake hair he was braiding into a rat tail for an 80s party. He's very crafty, but I hope he doesn't use this to style Violetta's hair someday!

Literally on the edge of a rain storm, just this afternoon on the way home from work.

Tales of My Ridiculous Life

Back in my single twenties I used to collect little ridiculous episodes that occurred in my life. It's too bad I didn't know about blogs back then. It would have been the perfect outlet to share these stories. In fact, when I decided to start this blog, it's one of the names I considered.

After the week I've had, it seemed a fitting title for a post.

Where to begin.

Well, I worked late nearly every night this week. And the night I left at 6:30, was to go to our monthly Resolve meeting. Thursday night, there was a farewell party for one of the principals in my department, which started at 5:00pm across town. This meant that at 4:45...everyone who sits near me got up and walked out to go to the party...leaving me all alone to work until 8. Talk about lonely. But, I think lonely is a subject for another post.

Friday night, there was yet another work party...this one was the grand opening of anoher principal's wife's new gift shop. Again, I could not attend. But, I was able to leave work in time to meet up with Hubby and his best friend for dinner before they hit a movie, and I headed home to crash.

I hugged Hubby good-bye at the movie theater, and headed to my car...and discovered a flat tire! I do have a slow leak in this one particular tire, so it didn't come as a huge surprise, but seriously? I didn't need to deal with that.

I called Hubby, and he as S came out. Thankfully, they hadn't ripped their tickets yet. And Hubby was awesome enough to let me drive his truck home, so he could deal with the tire later with the help of his friend. It turned out to be too flat to drive, and they had to put on the donut. We still haven't had time to figure out when we're getting the tire replaces. It's donut for me for a few weeks.

Saturday, we got up early so we could grocery shop and clean the house because we just hosted 23 members of Hubby's family today, many of whom hadn't yet seen our house, and we've now owned it for a year. (Yes, there has been a lot of guilt that Gramma and Grampa hadn't been here yet. We can put that to bed now at least!)

While I was cleaning the house, I discovered multiple instances of cat pee around the house. I have now coined the term MFP (more fucking pee). I also found that the sofa in the basement was sprayed again. I yanked off the slipcover, and put it in the wash for the third time in a month.

While the wash was going, I went back up to the office, where I usually fold the laundry, and scooped up a bunch of shirts I had left hanging off the ironing board, since I hadn't yet found the time to put them away. Since we'd be showing off the house, it was finally time. What did I discover...but MFP! Or should I say spray, all over my clean shirts.

Back down to the washing machine to rewash what was a pile of clean shirts! It was seriously bordering on more than a girl can take.

And today...pouring rain. I mean ridiculous torrential down pours. And we were expecting 23 people! Thankfully, we had borrowed a tent from a friend, and Hubby put it up yesterday.

Oh, and I went back down to the basement and found MFP on both the sofa and the loveseat. At least this time, it was small enough spots that I was able to use upholstery cleaner to spot clean. There was no time left to machine wash them again.

And did I mention the pouring rain?

When we were trying to decide how to keep all of our guest IN the house, I went outside to check out the tent. It was actually quite nice under there. The ground was dry, the air felt nice. I thought it was quite pleasant, and was not ready to abandon the idea of going out in the yard. As I made my way back out from the tent into the house, a huge build up of water decided to drop off the edge of the tent and landed directly on my head!

Honestly, how much more is a girl supposed to take.

In the end, we did manage to get everyone outside for the main meal. Our guests seemed to have a nice time, even though we are exhausted and feel like we barely talked to anyone. We had way too much food, so we have tons of left overs for the week...we'll be making meals out of spinach dip and chili con queso, but I'd rather not let it all go to waste!

I got to make both the fruit salsa and potato salad that I had really wanted to make...and barely any of either was eaten. Yet another ridiculous moment. I really freaked out over wanting to make potato salad. And nobody ate it.

Tomorrow begins another week...the week I will hopefully start stims finally. My project deadline is tomorrow morning, and it promises to be hellish. And then, to top it all off, in the lovely world of construction, there is this practice of making changes to the bid documents, which is what we are issuing tomorrow. This can be done up until 3 days before bids are due. For us, this is 8/26, which should be right smack in the middle of retrieval and transfer...because our original deadline got moved out by a week...that one I was so worried about interfering with my next cycle should I have been able to move forward right away. Well, it's going to interfere anyway.

Ridiculous.

I don't have anything more to say than that...although with the way life is going right about now, I will surely have more ridiculous stories to share soon!

Head. Spinning. So. Tired.

Well, here I am, it's finally the week before the deadline. Or of the deadline, depending on how you look at it. Drawings are due to our local architect next Monday morning. Which means I need to be done sometime on Friday because I have a very busy weekend planned, and not with work! Needless to say, after a very intense 10.5 hour non-stop cranking day at my desk, I am quite tired.

This post might ramble on somewhat. So, before I veer off on a tangent, I just want to thank you all for the encouraging comments on my last couple of posts. It's no secret that I'm having a tough time right now. Life feels like a bit of a perfect storm of sorts. Knowing you are all out there to listen, and offer support definitely helps me to make it through the tough days. And, sorry in advance if I'm a slacker commenter right now!

In any case, after having nothing in me on last Thursday, we had a very busy, nice, yet frustrating weekend. We went to dinner with friends on Friday night, to see their house which I had offered some decorating advice. Saturday, we had our whole gang over for a bbq. It was really fun to finally entertain in our yard. But, it was a lot of work to get it ready! All those weeds I dug up a few weeks ago came back, so I learned how to weed wack. We also had to get the house cleaned up. In the end, roasting marshmallows over a fire and swinging in the hammock with a yard full of friends made it all worth it.

Unfortunately, stress is getting the best of us these days, and we spent much of the morning and afternoon fighting. And we never fight. But, we managed to table our issues and still got in some hammock time before our guests arrived.

Yesterday was much better in terms of our spirits. We spent some time on bills in the morning (never fun!) And then had time for a lovely bike ride on the Charles River, through Cambridge and Boston. It was my first bike ride of the summer...and probably last! I can't imagine feeling comfortable once the stims start in less than two weeks. And, we all know cycling isn't the best for the swimmers. So I can't be letting Hubby get on a bike for great lengths of time in the next few weeks.

So, anyway, I mostly enjoyed my weekend. And now, it's the crunch to the end of the week. I'm not even going to attempt to do anything productive. Just get to work, and try not to eat junk. That's all I can ask.

Yeah, totally rambling, not even sure what I wanted to say.
